Tesla Cybertruck rear light bar takes centre stage in latest road test video, revealing a possibly disapointing implementation

Jul 25, 2023

In the latest of a recent slew of Tesla Cybertruck sightings, we have been given a shaky glimpse at the red light bar on the rear of the electric pickup truck (via TikTok). The video isn't the clearest around, and the LED lighting is almost certainly affected by the camera's rolling shutter effects, but the light bar seen on this particular prototype doesn't appear to reach the ends of the tailgate, like the original design renders showed.

Previously, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk had confirmed that the Cybertruck would, indeed, ship with a red light bar after early prototypes were seen without the light bar. Musk's original tweet confirming the existence of a light bar on the production model was originally in response to criticism about the aesthetics, but it turns out that the a rear centre brake light is mandatory in the US.

It remains to be seen whether the Cybertruck will have a rear light bar that spans the entire width of the tailgate, like the design seen in the original prototype and renders. In the video of the most recent sighting of the Cybertruck, the daytime running lights appear to be on, but other settings might enable full-length illumination.
